About me

Hi, I am a lecturer in linguistics at Beijing Foreign Studies Univerisy (BFSU) in the School of English for Specific Purposes. I completed my PhD study in Linguisitics (Phonetics & Phonology) in the Department of Language and Linguistic Science at the University of York. My PhD project looked into the production and perception of lexical tone variation across the Mandarin dialects, with a particular focus on the perceptual mechanisms and potential factors involved in processing familiar and unfamilair lexical tones. In general, my research employs corpus and cognitive methods to investigate speech variability and understand how listeners process and potentially adapt to such variation. I am also interested in the speech of elderly speakers and the acoustic-phonetic and perceptual manifestation of hearing loss and deterioration.

My name can be pronounced as [liɑŋ˥˩ tʂaʊ˥˩], in Chinese 赵靓.
